Life on Mars? Not likely
CBC News:Mars once had life-sustaining water: NASA
After many years of painstaking work, NASA has finally found more evidence of water on mars. They say that this is a major advancement in their mission, and that may be true, but what was the point of the whole mission anyway? From the beginning of the space program, NASA anticipated looking for life on other planets, and since Mars was one of the closest, they had the most interest in it. Now that they realize that it isn't so easy, they lower the stakes and just look for signs of life from the past. So with the EVIDENCE of water, they are one step closer to their conclusion. Unfortunately, one step is not much out of the marathon.
The next thing they need to find now is bacteria, as that is probably the most they will ever find if they are lucky. That would bring the question to "whether evolution really exists." Personally, I do not believe in evolution. Going from bacteria to human sized animals is not that easy. Certainly, at one point, the food chain would be imbalanced, and one species would overpopulate and run out of food if there is not another species larger that will control its population. Even nowadays, there have been growing discussions about the overpopulation of earth by humans. Since we are basically the highest in the food chain, not many of us are dying.
So far 820 million dollars have been spent on the rovers Spirit and opportunity. That money could have well been used here on earth too. With all the third world countries existing nowadays, it doesn't hurt to spend the money on places that need it.
So, before going too far off topic, I will conclude that NASA will not find any large forms of life on Mars.
